Ingredients

  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts, or pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 inch square baking pan and line the bottom with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the chocolate and butter over low heat until melted. Remove from heat.
  • In a small bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until well combined. Add to the chocolate. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Pour the batter into prepared pan
  • Bake for about 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out almost clean. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes. Loosen sides with a butter knife. Invert onto cooling rack, remove parchment paper and invert again. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Good chocolate is key in a recipe this simple.  I typically use  a Ghirardelli 60% cacao baking bar.
